swish-admin
A modern reimagining of the WordPress admin UI based on the TailAdmin dashboard design — all native functionality preserved
A WordPress plugin that restyles the admin dashboard with a modern TailAdmin look while keeping all native WordPress functionality unchanged.
Swish Admin is a WordPress plugin that gives the familiar WordPress admin dashboard a fresh, modern look without changing how it actually works underneath. It restyles the interface using the design of a free Tailwind CSS dashboard template called TailAdmin, but every menu, screen, and feature you already know from WordPress, including anything added by other plugins, stays fully functional and reachable in the same place.
The plugin replaces the classic sidebar menu with a TailAdmin styled version that still reflects all your real WordPress and plugin menus, including update counts, comment counts, and custom icons, plus collapsible submenus. The top toolbar is also replaced with a more modern bar that includes a keyboard shortcut search, a dark mode toggle, a link to view your live site, a quick create dropdown, and a user menu with your avatar. Dark mode preference is remembered in your browser. Existing WordPress screens like list tables, buttons, forms, notices, and dashboard widgets are all restyled to match the new look rather than being rebuilt from scratch.
The plugin works on both regular WordPress sites and multisite networks, letting you switch between network and individual site admin views from the sidebar. If you ever want to see the original WordPress interface on a specific screen, you can add a special option to the page's web address, or a developer can turn the new look off entirely using a filter built into WordPress. The plugin requires WordPress 6.5 or newer and PHP 7.4 or newer, and it is released under the GPL 2.0 or later license, the same license WordPress itself uses.
Where it fits
- Give an existing WordPress site a modern dashboard look without losing any plugin functionality.
- Add dark mode and keyboard shortcut search to the WordPress admin area.
- Restyle a multisite WordPress network's admin screens consistently.
- Switch back to the native WordPress interface on demand for troubleshooting.
